The Parent-Child Learning Center (PCLC) serves the infants and toddlers of teenage parents attending high school.  The child care program is a cooperative educational program staffed by TDC Learning Centers, Inc., Topeka Public Schools, and Catholic Community Services.  The various components of the program include:  child care; modeling of parenting skills; parent education; lab classes and supervision of the parent students; counseling; and helping teens access social services and resources.

The primary goal of the Parent-Child program is that parenting teenagers continue and complete their secondary education.  Families headed by a teenage mother are seven times more likely to be poor and dependent upon public assistance -- the infants and children of children are at high risk for abuse and/or neglect.  The Parent Child Learning Center provides opportunity to change this dismal situation.  The program helps teens stay in school and provides parenting education that will decrease the risk of child abuse and neglect.
