Little Explorers Learning Center at Trinity

TDC provides full day care and early education for children, ages 2 weeks to 6 years. The children are provided opportunities to learn and develop socially, developmentally, and intellectually. All meals are planned to promote healthy eating habits as well as to be nutritious. We offer individualized care in a learning environment. Play and positive interaction with teachers and other children support social, emotional, and intellectual growth. Parents are our partners and are encouraged to participate in all the center activities.
Staff child-ratios are mandated by Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) as part of the licensing process. We believe that licensing is important to the provision of quality child care in the community.

A Day in the Life of A Child!

                  Infants
Every day is a new adventure in the Infant classroom! Whether it is learning to crawl, taking our first steps, or trying our first spoonful of baby food, we are always learning! Every child has their own lesson plan to make sure that their individual developmental needs are being met.  Our day includes the usual feeding, diapering and naps, but then there is so much more!  We spend lots of time playing and exploring…..whether it is through tummy time, music, sensory play, gross motor play or art, we are having fun and learning!  When weather permits, we like to spend time outside and going for stroller rides.  We know its hard to be away from Mom and Dad, so we make sure to give lots of cuddles and individual attention to make sure our little ones are happy and secure!

                  Toddler I
In this room, children are really starting to experience the world around them in different ways.  They start learning balance, to run and jump, develop more fine motor skills and start using different forms of communication.  In this classroom, we spend a lot of time starting to teach children sign language, to assist them in communicating their needs as they are just starting to learn words to express themselves.  Lesson plans are geared to make sure children have experiences with music, books, art, gross motor play, fine motor and sensory play, communication and more.  We have plenty of time to explore outdoors and sometimes take field trips to places like the zoo.

                  Toddler II
Toddler II is full of energy and lots of fun. We spend time almost every day dancing to music and playing musical instruments. Imagination is encouraged through dramatic play by dressing up, pretending to cook and caring for their baby dolls. We have circle time each day, which consists of singing songs and reading a book.  Circle time also includes learning about the calendar and spending time learning our colors and shapes. We have a different theme each week. A lot of activities that we do will go along with the theme for the week. We encourage the children to get messy and creative through art projects and also through sensory play.  Children learn many self-help skills in this classroom, including drinking from an open cup, using their spoon or fork and for the most part, serve themselves at meals. We also help start the potty training process with those who are ready by encouraging children to pull their pants down themselves and take off their diapers. To further increase their self-help skills and social skills, we help children find and use their words to communicate when they want something or when talking to their friends.  We get to spend a lot of time outside and take community field trips.

                  Preschool I
In Preschool I, we spend our days having a lot of fun together. During the day, we will concentrate on potty training, learning our colors and shapes, and practicing our ABC’s and counting. During free time, the children choose whether to play in Science, Writing, Blocks, Dramatic Play, Sensory, Library or the Art Center. All centers are open all day for the kids’ enjoyment. Several music and movement activities are done throughout the day and we try to fit a food project in at least every two weeks or so. We spend a lot of time outdoors playing, exercising and learning about the world around us.  We are currently growing Mammoth Sunflowers in our garden as well as herbs and tomatoes in the classroom. The children really enjoy going out to the garden to water and watch their plants grow!

                  Preschool II
We like to have a lot of fun in Preschool 2.  We start our day with circle time where we work on counting, days of the week, months of the year and weather.  Our favorite activity is dressing the weather frog in his weather appropriate clothes!
Our classroom centers are:  art, handwriting, computer, library, quiet area, music, blocks, science and math and dramatic play.  The centers are open all day for the children to play in.  The children have a variety of experiences and are starting to learn how to navigate social situations with friends. Another favorite is outside playtime.  The children especially like digging in the dirt to find worms!  We enjoy various field trips throughout the year, such as going to the zoo. We have a classroom pet named Marlin.  He is our blue Beta fish. The children enjoy the experience of taking care of Marlin.

                  Pre-K
Pre-K is more than an adventure, it is a life changing experience. During our days in Pre-K, we learn to count in Spanish, read books we never thought we could, count higher than we can imagine and write more words than we can think of. We explore all areas of nature and science in worms, bugs, praying mantis, frogs and much more. We are always open to finding out new things about the world around us. We work on being very independent in everything we do from working through our problems to inventing new ways to understand the world.  Children graduate from Pre-K with the skills necessary to be successful in school!!!
